Detach and reset selected over remove and replace to preserve existing finishes where like-kind-and-quality replacement is not warranted. Wall painted corner to corner following drywall repair. Spot painting limited to the patch area would produce visible variation in sheen and color due to the age of the existing finish and the impossibility of blending fresh paint into a partially aged surface on the same continuous plane. Painting to the nearest natural break point is standard practice for a workmanlike finished appearance.
